Understanding Your Hair Health Starts Here

Get clear, evidence-based answers to the most common questions about hair loss, scalp health, and TrichoMed’s approach to care.

Hair loss can be confusing, and often emotionally overwhelming. We believe clarity and transparency are essential to restoring both hair health and confidence.

Below are answers to the questions we hear most often from patients. If you don’t see your question here, we’re always happy to help.

About TrichoMed and Our Approach

What makes TrichoMed different from other hair clinics in Toronto?

TrichoMed is Canada’s only multidisciplinary hair health clinic where Trichologists, Doctors, and Hair Restoration Surgeons collaborate as a unified team.

Rather than a one-dimensional or cosmetic approach, we provide a 360° medical and trichological assessment to identify root causes and build a long-term strategy. This collaborative model leads to more accurate diagnoses, personalized treatment plans, and sustainable results, not guesswork or quick fixes.

Who is a good candidate for your services?

We specialize in supporting:

  • Women experiencing thinning, shedding, or hormonally driven hair loss
  • Men in the early stages of hair loss who may not yet be candidates for surgery

If you’re looking for medically guided answers, non-surgical options, or a clear understanding of why your hair is changing — and what can be done over time — you’re likely an excellent fit.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is required. You can book directly through our website.

When appropriate, we collaborate with your existing healthcare providers or specialists to ensure your care is coordinated, comprehensive, and medically appropriate.

Program Structure & Commitment

Is this a one-time consultation or an ongoing program?

No, your consultation is the entry point into a structured, 12-month hair health program, not a single standalone visit.

Your care includes multiple touchpoints over time, progress monitoring, treatment adjustments, and collaboration between trichology and medical professionals to address the root causes of hair and scalp concerns.

Do I have to commit to the full 12 months right away?

No. Your initial discovery call with one of our hair loss specialists helps us determine whether TrichoMed is the right fit for you and outlines a clear, personalized care strategy.

Any ongoing care or program recommendations are discussed after your discovery call, with full transparency and no obligation to proceed.

How many visits or touchpoints are included?

Most patients will have approximately five structured touchpoints over 12 months, which may include:

  • Initial diagnostic consultation
  • Follow-up medical review (when indicated)
  • Treatment progress assessments
  • Adjustments based on response and goals
  • Ongoing guidance and monitoring

Your exact schedule depends on your needs and treatment plan.

Why is TrichoMed structured as a program instead of individual visits?

Hair loss rarely has a single cause, and it rarely responds to one-time treatment.

Our program-based approach allows us to monitor progress, adjust treatments, and respond to your body over time, which leads to safer, more predictable, and longer-lasting outcomes than isolated visits.

What happens if my needs change during the program?

Hair health is dynamic. Hormones, stress, health changes, and life events can all impact results.

That’s why your plan is not fixed. We reassess, adjust, and refine your care as needed to ensure it continues to align with your goals and biology.

Service-Specific Questions

What happens during the first consultation?

Your initial consultation is the starting point of a structured care program, not a one-off visit.

It includes a comprehensive scalp and hair assessment with a Trichologist, alongside a medical evaluation by our Doctor. Together, they assess contributing factors such as hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, medical conditions, or scalp health, and outline a personalized, evidence-based care plan designed to evolve over time.

Are your treatments safe?

Yes. All treatments at TrichoMed are medically approved, evidence-based, and delivered or overseen by licensed professionals.

We rely on clinical data, advanced diagnostics, and proven therapies, avoiding gimmicks, unverified trends, or unrealistic claims.

How long does it take to see results?

Hair restoration is a biological process, and timelines vary based on individual factors and treatment approach.

Some patients notice improvements in scalp health or reduced shedding within 8–12 weeks, while visible changes in density or growth typically take several months to develop. Our focus is on lasting, sustainable improvement, supported by ongoing monitoring and adjustments, not temporary or superficial fixes.

Do you offer PRP therapy or laser treatments?

Yes. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy and laser treatments are available as part of our non-surgical treatment options when clinically appropriate.

PRP uses your body’s natural growth factors to stimulate follicle activity, while laser therapy supports circulation and cellular function. These therapies are often combined within a broader care strategy to optimize outcomes

Do you perform hair transplant surgery?

TrichoMed focuses on non-surgical hair health and restoration.

However, our team includes access to surgical expertise when needed. If and when transplant evaluation becomes appropriate, we ensure you are medically prepared and fully informed before any referral.

Can TrichoMed help if I’ve already had a hair transplant?

Absolutely. Many patients come to us after surgery for scalp optimization, maintenance, and long-term support for hair health.

We work closely with Toronto’s leading hair surgeons to ensure continuity of care, helping protect your investment and support healthy growth long after the procedure.

Pricing, Value & Transparency

Why is the consultation fee higher than other clinics?

Your consultation fee reflects the depth of assessment and expertise involved, including trichology evaluation, medical review, diagnostics, and collaborative care planning.

Rather than charging for fragmented visits, we focus on delivering clarity, accuracy, and a long-term strategy, helping you avoid wasted time, money, and ineffective treatments.

What does the consultation fee include?

Your consultation fee covers a comprehensive diagnostic and care-planning process, including:

  • Assessment by a certified trichologist
  • Medical evaluation by a licensed Doctor
  • Advanced scalp and hair analysis
  • Collaborative treatment strategy tailored to you
  • Ongoing care coordination and follow-ups as part of your program

This ensures your plan is medically sound, personalized, and designed for long-term results, not guesswork.

Will I know the total cost before starting any treatment?

Yes. Any recommended treatments, therapies, or products are clearly explained, along with their associated costs, before you decide.

You remain in control at every step. There are no surprise fees and no pressure to proceed.

Will I be asked to pay for treatments or products on top of the consultation fee?

Possibly - and always transparently.

Your consultation focuses on diagnosis and strategy. If treatment recommendations include medical therapies, in-clinic treatments, or products, all costs are explained clearly before you proceed. There is never pressure to move forward.

Our goal is informed decision-making, not upselling.

Is the consultation covered by OHIP?

Medical doctor visits and medically necessary assessments may be covered by OHIP when applicable.

However, your consultation fee covers non-OHIP insured services, including trichology expertise, diagnostic analysis, program design, care coordination, and ongoing monitoring.

This allows us to deliver complete, collaborative care without cutting corners.

What’s the most important thing I should know before booking?

You’re not booking a quick fix, you’re starting a thoughtful, medically guided process designed to give you clarity, direction, and support.

Can I continue working with my own doctor or dermatologist?

Absolutely. We encourage collaborative care.

When appropriate, we’re happy to coordinate with your existing healthcare providers to ensure your hair health plan aligns with your overall medical care.

How much time does the program require?

We design care plans that respect your time.

Most treatments fit easily into a busy lifestyle, and follow-ups are scheduled strategically rather than frequently. Our goal is effective care, not unnecessary appointments.
